Got Sock?

Posted by saucysockswap on March 30, 2008

Of course you don’t – you haven’t been assigned your partner yet, silly!

As we await that day, please go into the Profile Q&A to answer a few questions about personal preferences related to how you like your socks (i.e., tall/short, pink/blue, small/big foot).  Completing the profile questions before (or as soon after as possible) everyone is assigned their partner will allow participants who are organized and/or can’t wait to get started the opportunity to get the right yarn purchased and get knittin’ right away.

We’re up to six participants and hope to have many more join over the next couple of weeks before the deadline!

Test sock

Posted by stixchik on March 29, 2008

Test sockSince I’m pretty new to sock knitting, I decided to try a test-sock.  I’m using Koigui IPPPM 100% Merino Wool that I had in my stash.  It’s a hand-painted yarn, and this batch is a beautiful varigation of many shades of green, with a hint of gold every now and then.
Overall I’m doing pretty well with the pattern.  God bless the pattern writer for writing out all the rounds of the pattern through the heel where the gusset decreases are happening.  I hate patterns that just say “continue on in pattern” and leave you to figure it out.

032908_20441.jpgThere are a couple of spots where I lost track of a stitch… I think I might have dropped a YO because I can’t find any dropped stitches.  I think I did a pretty good job of hiding an extra stitch to get back to the correct number.

The pattern calls for repeating seven times on the leg, but I like mine a bit shorter so I only did five.  I also have to fess up to big feet, so this is knitting up a teensy bit tight… and I’ll have to make the foot length a bit longer.  But the instructions are very clear and I’m feeling pretty confident about it.  I think if I knit this pattern again for myself, I’ll just go with a yarn that will give a bit bigger gauge.

Overall, I’m having fun.  The pictures show how far I’ve gotten in 3 days. Unfortunately I only have my cameraphone available for pictures right now.

Welcome to the Saucy Spring Sock Swap Blog!

Posted by saucysockswap on March 23, 2008

What better way to celebrate spring – when everything becomes new again – than by making a pair of Saucy Socks and swapping them with a new friend! I saw this pattern and fell in love with the design combination of cables and lace; it’s both bold and beautiful…a sure sign of spring.

Participants can use this site to ask questions, get help if needed, show off your progress…and visitors can get information on what’s going on, how to join and see how much fun we’re having!  I’ll also use this site to keep everyone aprised of relative information, changes, suggestions, etc.

For now you can click (at the top of the site) on Swap Rules for all the details and contact information, and on Dates At A Glance for a quick look at time frames and deadlines.

I hope you’re as excited as I am to “spring” into this saucy little adventure and see where and how far our creative juices can take us!
